Show "Improvised Soap Opera" by Kevin Gillese and Masterclass Students

This particular format of improvised soap opera has a long history. It started in Canada with Die-Nasty (and their annual 53-Hour Soap-a-Thon), then spread to places like London (with their 50-hour Improv-a-Thon) and to Dad's Garage in Atlanta where Scandal has been running for about 20 years.

Info

This particular format of improvised soap opera has a long history. It  started in Edmonton with Die-Nasty (and their annual 53-Hour  Soap-a-Thon), then spread to places like London (with their 50-hour  Improv-a-Thon) and to Dad's Garage in Atlanta where Scandal has been  running for about 20 years. With characters and storylines that continue  show to show, the Improvised Soap Opera brings new levels of  storytelling to the world of improv. This workshop will go over every  detail of the format, as well as techniques to make the show sizzle over  the course of a run. Participants will walk away ready to lie, cheat  and double-cross their way through an improvised soap opera of their  own.

Kevin Gillese and Masterclass Students!

About Kevin:

Kevin is a Canadian comedy writer and performer with more than twenty years of experience squeezing laughs out of audiences. He has written or co-written ten plays that have been produced at theatres in Canada and the United States. And he has written and produced dozens of short films, online sketches and web series… some of which are actually pretty good. In 2023 he released his debut feature film "How To Ruin The Holidays" which he wrote and produced. And his debut comedy special "7 Minutes in Kevin" will be released on Tubi in 2025, it's "a side-splitting stand-up show that's not to be missed." (Edmonton Journal)

Kevin started out as an improviser & writer in Edmonton way back in the late 90s. He worked with improv institution, Rapid Fire Theatre, and eventually became the Artistic Director there for several years by the late 2000s. In 2010 he moved to Atlanta to take the Artistic Director job at Dad’s Garage Theatre, a position he held for exactly a decade, during which time he oversaw the development and production of over thirty original comedic plays as well as countless improv formats and comedy events.

Kevin's improv duo "Scratch" has been performing together since 2005 and has been called "the best improv show I've ever seen" (VUE magazine) and "the apex of Comedy Mountain" (SEE magazine).
